City of Hope Creates a Landmark

It is said that a "building is a building is a building", but a building with a sign is a landmark, and what a landmark it is, two large 17 feet tall by 76 feet long signs on the City of Hope Campus in Duarte, CA.  Signs and Services Co. worked closely  with Joe Stewart and Paymon Escalante at KPFF Engineering to meet the critical structural demand.  OSHPD has jurisdiction over the sign permits for all of the California Hospitals, and Helford Clinical Research Hospital was no exception. Welding Procedures were applied for and approved, Our certified welders were inspected every part of the way by Deputy inspectors both in our shop and at the job site. Charles Jahns was the point person and handled the inspections and scheduling of all OSHPD matters.

The sign facing the 605 freeway has a flexible face logo cabinet 9’-8”  square that illuminates, The “C” and “H” in “City f Hope”  are 7’-8”tall and the balance .  “HELFORD CLINCAL RESEARCH HOSPITAL” is 19 ½” tall. All lettering is face lighted channel letters with full aluminum body construction, white neon interior illumination.

This project required a huge amount of team work; City of Hope, Signs and Services Company, KPFF Engineering, OSHPD, City of Duarte and many others. The communications were critical and details need to be precise. Everyone worked well together and here we have it , complete a landmark. City of Hope, HELFORD CLINICAL RESEARCH HOSPITAL.
